This painting was a continuation of my commentary on the devastation birthed by racialized violence, as explored in my OPEN SEASON paintings - a series of around 15 paintings inspired by the two below. 

Each painting in the series was a study of leaves and assault rifles. Some of the rifles were hidden, others more blatant. I’d hoped to foster dialogue about the ways in which a lethal combination of technology and violence has become second nature to humanity. I wanted to push viewers to also think about the marginalized individuals around the world who fall to this culture of racialized violence.
